The Importance of Reaching Your Goals

Do you have any goals that you are working toward this year that you wish to accomplish? I know this year I am trying to change things up a bit. I am working on some life skills to gain more independence. Setting goals will help us become the best version of ourselves.

Here are some of my goals that I have right now to become more independent

1.Learn to cook more meals

2.Save up money

3. Reach up to 500 subscribers on my YouTube channel and have a party (Have 411 right now!)

4.Journal and read more

5. Spend more time reading the Bible and praying

6. Workout and do yoga a few times a week

7.Create a better sleep schedule for myself

8. Write 2-3 times a week

9.Get my own apartment

This example is what your goal list could look too. Or, share with me of what you want to accomplish.

Lately, I have not been doing a great job at reaching towards all these goals. I have felt distracted. Unmotivated. Can you relate? I feel like I got off track somehow. But, we can always start again! We can always ask God for help. And remember, we are ALL human which means we get distracted and make mistakes.

But I want to remember these verses...

Matthew 26:41

"Watch and pray that you do not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak"

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it." Romans 7:15-20

These verses show why it can be hard sometimes for us to do or want to do the right thing.

We can set goals, read over them and want to accomplish them but we have to do the hard part and actually work at it.

We all want to be independent in our own way but some of us may learn life skills slower then others and that's okay. But with more time, patience and work you can and will get there. Just know that you have people out there who believe in you and want to also help you become the best independent person and do all the things you want to do.

I encourage you to talk to a trusted family member, friend, or CLS worker and tell them about your goals and what you want to work on in your life. Also get a journal or a pen and a paper and write down goals that you could start working on. Talk them over with someone you trust.

I also encourage you to pray about it and ask God to help you achieve it!

"I believe in you, don't let your struggles define you, keep reaching toward your goals"
