Taking Care Of A Body With A Disability

1 Corinthians 6:19 "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own"

Taking care of a body with a disability and especially hidden disability can be very difficult. Trust me I have learned over especially the past few years in my later 20s how difficult it can be.

I mean, it’s hard to know what and what not to eat. Even to control what you do eat. Sometimes I feel like it isn’t fair I have to have to watch what I eat or even give up sweats when I have to already be up a gluten free and dairy free diet. Sometimes I wish God could give me more grace with my body and so that I wouldn’t have to work so hard. But im definitely learning life isn’t always easy and fair.

I also very much have been struggling with my hair. My hair is apparently very thin and fragile and it’s like I can’t even straighten it that much anymore because then it would just break off and get shorter.

Yeah I really miss my long hair. I had to get my hair cut short a few years ago because it was breaking off I had no choice and now it’s been a few years later and my hair still hasn’t grown long again. It’s very frustrating.

But just like my body I have to come up with plans on how to keep my hair healthy even if it’s having to choose not straighten my hair as much anymore but I can use my straightener blow dryer which doesn’t seem to break off my hair but then I have to deal with not having my hair as straight as I want it to be.

Sometimes like my hair things don’t always go as we want them to it might seem unfair (it still seems unfair to me)

But we can choose to be thankful anyways that we have hair and we have a body that can do amazing things.

It may not always look as we want them to but guess what? God gave you your hair and body and it is beautiful just as it is.

I know it’s hard to look at your body and it’s easy to wish you looked different or your hair is different but once you learn to accept yourself how you are and love yourself if will be easier to take care ond yourself and when you do that, that weight is lifted off your shoulders. I’m not saying you have to stay where you are. You can come up with goals or ways to help you or your hair or body.

A few examples of mine are

This fall 2023 I have chosen to walk every other day to work on my body for myself.

I also have to choose again not to straighten my hair as much and use my hair blow straighten.

Choosing to eat more fruits and veggies. Etc

What are some things you could work on this year for yourself and for the body God gave you? Let me know in the comments!..
